Innocence Poem by Hannah Rose

Innocence

An innocent soul does now know what they miss
And when they discover it they feel bliss
Until they discover the dark of night
And that bliss comes with a price
Of little or no light

Then happiness runs awry
For how would a changed soul fly
When they can’t even see the sky
And to lift ones wings when see they can not
This scared soul would rather stay down and rot

And in emptiness one is forced to ponder
And in emptiness one is forced to idly wander
And in emptiness one must discover ones self
Or die of boredom from living on a shelf

And now as this soul learns everything anew
Things begin to become a boy a girl or me and you
Adding on to the things one must begin to do
A list of expectations and mistakes that make you rue

And this old innocent soul wishes for its past
For ignorance is bliss is a saying you learn fast
How much easier it would be to simply not know
How much easier it would be to just live and let go
For although grudges aren’t held in your mind
Innocence would rather not know ones pain and be blind
For isn’t your own suffering enough
No of course your own needs others to be made tough
