Inescapable Tensions Of Color Poem by Rashida Mack

Inescapable Tensions Of Color

A birthday treat,
Three women at the spa,
An oasis from the norm,
Unplugged,
Sweating,
Buffing,
Unwinding,
Relaxation achieved,
Until reconnected with the world,
She checks her PDA,
As the message is received,
Her smile melts away,
She hangs up the phone,
And tells us about her fiancé's Saturday in the park with his daughter,
Playing on the jungle gym with her,
Two officers approach,
He fits a profile,
Thrown against a chain linked fence,
In front of her,
He is frisked,
Before the error is recognized,
They let him go,
She is seven,
and will forever remember “powerlessness, ”
It does not matter,
That I've just met the woman,
and I've never met the man,
or the daughter,
I know their story too well,
His heart breaks for what his girl has seen,
Her heart breaks at the sound of her man's voice,
And our hearts break for them.
