Rashida Mack Poems

Running down the icy, snow covered road,
we ran,
laughing,
you looking back,
...

Popping bacon grease in a pan,
it was Sunday,
mom, step dad and I seated at the table,
sis pushed back her chair,
...

The woman stood solid,
pushing against a wall,
behind the shield marched,
armed and uniformed men,
...

I am a boy,
the size of a man,
bound down,
I break free,
...

Tapping fingers on wife and daughters hand,
lips puckered,
shade covered eyes,
simmering,
...

Today is like any other day,
Accept I shed my uniform
For plain clothes undercover.
Assigned to work the beat,
...

A birthday treat,
Three women at the spa,
An oasis from the norm,
Unplugged,

Brooklyn,
Class is out,
It’s summertime,
On the platform,

Haiku:

Amazon woman,
Steaming awash, wet to dry

Hardened by sorrow,
falling tears melt the ice queen,
erasing all fear
...

Gathering,
we sit around,
telling stories,
skipping between this and that,
...

So softly,
she rides,
trinkets,
falling from the sky,
...

Tibet is filled with roses,
the rolling hillside dotted pink, yellow and red,
wires covered in prickly vines adorned with bursts of color,
the air heavy with the fragrant dew of sense,

Moms and bosoms and teddies and suckers,
Babies and blankets and bottles and thumbs,
Fathers and husbands and women and wives,
Diamonds and clothing and rings and homes,
...

People,
they make such a fuss,
talking and praying about it,
heaven and hell,
...

A man stood still,
stuck on the sidewalk,
staring,
in a red cap,
...

If we strip it all away,
what's really in a name?
Who your mother or father is?
Where you were born?
...

So softly,
she rides,
trinkets,
falling from the sky,
...

Haiku:

The taste of cream soothes
As hibernus brings cheer

I am an African American 22 yr old man,
Trembling,
I am told to hit the ground,
pushed down,

Lost Innocence

Running down the icy, snow covered road,
we ran,
laughing,
you looking back,
as I chased.

Rounding the bin,
you jumped on the back of a reindeer drawn wooden carriage.
As it stalled,
elated at the catch,
I am upon you,
and then I see,
so close to home,
the reindeer's antlers have become entwined with the branches of the tree,
crowd gathering round,
you sitting calm,
we watch as a fireman from the bricked and arched station across the street
straightens both out.

From behind,
I soothe the hearty haired dark deer with strokes,
once freed, he turns his head and bites for my wrist.
It's my watch he wants as I watch him clamp his teeth
around the head,
crushing time.
