Indifferent Cow Poem by Rita Cerniglia

Indifferent Cow

I love you, dumb, indifferent cow.
I worship holier than thou,
but you're content to chew your cud,
to spill your milk, sleep in the mud.
You do not think nor even care
about the steak, well-done or rare.
No mental meanace you allow.
I love you, dumb, indifferent cow!

I love you, dumb, indifferent cow!
You do not blink wide in surprise,
but you're content to chew your hay,
too moo your moo, stand night and day
(oblivious to steak and fries,
a by product of bovine thighs) .
On blissful ignorance you plow.
I love you, dumb, indifferent cow!

I love this dumb, indifferent beast,
who cares not she's our dinner feast!
But is content to swat the flies,
to seek the shade, to close her eyes
(not bothering to wonder further
the origin of one cheeseburger) .
You only live for here and now.
I love you, dumb, indifferent cow!

I love you cow, for you are DUMB!
I wish I were ignorant some.
Could watch my doom some passive way,
unfeeling, eating on some hay.
Be daily used without protest,
to care only for shade and rest.
Not wondering about my rights,
I'd live my days and sleep some nights.
At the butchers take one final bow....
I love you, dumb, indifferent cow!
