Indian Independence Day, August 15th,2015 Poem by Dr John Celes

Indian Independence Day, August 15th,2015

Much have we delved in ignorance;
Much have we lived in poverty;
Much have we embraced corruption;
Much have we hated our brethren.

Once more comes Independence Day;
We can’t be happy ’midst problems;
Corruption rules our hearts and minds;
We do not love our fellowmen.

Our parliament must function well;
Respect to elders must be prime;
Education must be our drive;
The female child must be secure.

We do not need corrupt leaders;
We don’t need lazy bureaucrats;
We must detect fifth columnists;
We have to guard our L O C.

India is progressing so well;
The people’s minds, hearts must be cleansed;
We have to strengthen our defence;
We can’t deny water to next.

Our glorious land is poised for growth;
A sense of decorum must come;
Integrity is needed most;
All Indians must be free to voice.

The voters gave their mandate but
The parties must keep promises;
The common man is maimed, anguished;
The health of poor must get prime slot.

Will new blood be infused in youth?
We need new leaders uncorrupt;
We should not steal from our brethren;
Our elderly need better care.

In balance hangs, the health of all;
Our farmers need more doles, not loans;
Merit must rule our destiny;
Evict the forces that divide.

An India strong is important;
We have to be self-reliant;
Diseases must be controlled well;
A billion mouths need better food.

We have to keep our foes away;
All Indians must be united;
We cannot cheat our own neighbors;
We ought to be patriotic.

May God bless Indian leaders all;
May God protect our land from harm;
We must safe-guard our heritage;
We must be example to world.

Terrorists must be shown the door;
All heinous crimes must be checked fast;
The country needs more discipline;
Taxation mustn’t be burden.

India must be a global friend;
India must help all afflicted;
India must lead in every sphere;
India must be a land of peace.

Let’s follow up Kalamji’s dreams;
Let’s follow Gandhiji’s foot-steps;
Let sense prevail among Indians;
No vice should fill our hearts and minds.

Let us not waste our hard-earned sums;
Let beggary be rooted out;
Let’s give basic amenities;
Let selflessness afill our hearts.
Jai Hind; Jai Bharat!

Dedicated to all patriotic Indians globally
