In Praise Of Modern Women Poem by Thomas Golding

In Praise Of Modern Women

Rating: 5.0

IN PRAISE OF MODERN WOMEN

“There is truth in wine, ” claimed the Romans
Those ancient imbibers should have known better
As should those women who laughingly poured
The remains of the bottle into my glass
When told of the French belief or cunning ploy
That if an unattached women drains the dregs
She will never find a partner
A ruse I pass on to this generation
It’s earned me many undeserved drinks.

Today they jeer in apparent disbelief
Think about it for a while before
Topping up my glass using language
Their mothers pretended not to know.

I have reflected many times
If there was verity in that anecdote
Some very good friends would have lived
Happier lives had they told me to dropp dead
Or more likely go to hell
And drained the last drops from the bottle.
