In My Eyes Poem by Sandra Regan

In My Eyes

Wading in a stream seeking minnows and tadpoles,
I come to a realization.
The children try to catch the creatures.
I do what I do in a stream like such.
I close my eyes and remember.
Rocks in the streams, colored glass on the beach.
I gather rocks. Piled high in beautiful sculpture.
Within minutes the stream emerges into a beautiful landscapes.
Yes, this is my gift.
To see beauty not only from within, but from everything around me.
The broken streams, muddy waters, flat rocks.
All emerge as created majestic palaces of my hand.
Shining smooth in the water, round like me, agate sparkles,
granite grays, earthy blues, and deep sea greens.
In my eyes, all is beauty is this space.
Once all the same.
Now the greatest tower is topped of with the smallest,
seemingly insignificant, pebble.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I love nature, especially water and the ocean. Whenever I go to the beach or a lake or a stream, I always stack rocks and make impromptu sculptures with my kids. I've done this for years. Adding beauty to nature I guess.

Wonderful enlightening poem, feel like I'm right there with you, seeing everything as you see it. Beautiful imagery. Love the water and ocean too! Living in the desert, I would always gather rocks, stones and pebbles and make little caves on the side of desert hills or on the sides of ravines where I used to play as a child. Thank you for sharing your memory. RoseAnn
