In Memory Of Margaret Poem by Micron

In Memory Of Margaret

Rating: 5.0

She lived near my parents just next door but one
But today she departed and is now sadly gone
Margaret had no family, she lived on her own
But don’t feel sorry she was happy laughing never forlone
Each day she went walking seeing what nature did bring
And I know she was looking for the first flower sign of spring
She loved her garden and plants that she grew
With a manicured lawn she’d stand survey and view
As I walked to my parents I spoke to her back and bum
Because her gardening work was never done
But always I shouted hello to her bending form
A muffled return would come back sounding warm
She always said shed keep as busy as a bee
And daily volunteered at the hospice giving comfort and tea
My dad he often went to help her when things broke
Leaking guttering, fallen shelves, ‘cos he’s that sort of bloke
She tried to befriend both my mum and dad
As always mum didn’t respond which was sad
And mum said she was flirting and dad couldn’t see
But she was a good neighbour friend to both it seemed to me
And just over month ago when mum passed away
She came round to see us lots nice things to say
Everyone always ignored me asked if dad is okay
But she realised I was quietly suffering hiding that day
She looked out for him the last few week
He said she chattered on when he just couldn’t speak
She told me I was never to worry about dad you see
Because she was near and keep an eye out for me
Daily she’d find an excuse to call round to dad
Though he thought she was silly and mad
Lots of daft silly thing needing looking at
Even could he put grippers on a mat!
But she gave him distractions from thinking of mum
So really she was clever and not at all dumb
But yesterday events turned things around
As from her house there was no sight or sound
Dad climbed up onto her roof to check if she was alright
Then blue light flashing police arrived what a sight!
They found her lying stunned on the floor
Still she was worried about the upset for dad more
Then today there was nothing they could do
And he lost a friend that was good and true
