In Memoriam - Edith Sodergran (1892-1923) Poem by Peter Russell

In Memoriam - Edith Sodergran (1892-1923)

I am the wind that rushes in your ears
I am the wave that wraps your island round
I am the water pulsing in your brain
I am the rock that jags your body's rock

I am the earth that holds your splintered bones
I am the dust that stops your mouth
I am the stone that taps your temples' frenzy
I am the sand that scours your emerald wreck.

I am the tree that sings above your cliff
I am the wood that furs your hidden shame
I am the board that traps your sleeping limbs
I am the iodine that purples all your wrack

I am slow fire that roasts your gauzy shade
I am the boiling sea that scalds your lips
I am the torch that lights your dark descent
I am the mote that blinds your eye
I am the beam that chafes you on the rack…
