In A Flood Of My Tears Poem by Leonard McGee

In A Flood Of My Tears

My heart strings slowly stopped
vibrating allowing our love to fade
As she removed her mask
ending the painful masquerade
Which wasted our present, dismissed
her character, and wounded my pride
As we put on a show like our
life was an amusement park ride
Giving rise to hope for the
future based on a flawed past
With fake smiles, and unreal
expectations of delusions to last
Long enough to celebrate
anniversaries of silver and gold
Still dancing to our heart song
at one hundred years old
Looking ahead to countless
changes in the four seasons
Waking up intertwined, exhausted,
and nude without good reasons
To doubt tomorrow will reflect
todays loving joy
Which were continuations of passions
ignited as a boy
Filled with and consumed by
the notions of what made a man
In an era the voices of reason still spoke
a language she did not understand
She stood confident the noise of my heart
strings would become music to her ears
In time to enjoy it before our masquerade
ended in a flood of my tears
