Imprint Poem by Hannah Barham

Imprint

The imprint of your spine
on my skin.
The scent of you lingers
on the sheets.

I curl into the warm space you left
in the bed beside me.
Bury my nose in the pillow
where your head rested.

Your handprints burn
on my skin.
Trails of nameless warmth remain
where your fingers lay.

In sleepless night I reach
to your vacant space.
In dumb hope I search for
your flesh – yielding firm.

I twist away from your
vacated space.
I curl in vain in my single bed
- too big without you.

This is a lovely and poignant poem about the remnants of a once vital love relationship. It flows well and is evocative with nice imagery. 10
