Immigrant Poem by Sheldon Carruthers

Immigrant

betwixt the darkness and the light
surrender or fight
do your duty and end your plight
strangers in a foreign land
cries of go home or else be damned
shock to the system you've left your home
people have a bone to pick don't leave behind your heritage
no room for doom and pessimism but your arrival has left a schism
is there enough room here it's who's decision
trouble at the western front are you an invading foreigner should I be so blunt
Something to offer us yes but at who's behest
not all thieves or vagabonds some respect you have won
strangers in a foreign land some think that you should all be band
betwixt the darkness and the light
surrender or fight
