I'm Worried About The Kids Poem by Pippa Moss

I'm Worried About The Kids

I'm worried about the kids, I don't understand
The look they give me, a gadget in each hand
It's not the world I knew back then
When we played outside with a real life friend

But we've had a pandemic - oh my word
A year where home and school life blurred
We knew they liked screens before all this
Now if you suggest fresh air you're in for a tiff

I miss them being little, I knew what to do
We had our adventures me and my two
Now I have to think hard before I suggest
An activity meaning you have to get dressed

I'm trying very hard not to become the bore
And I've learnt to knock on the bedroom door
I've taken advice it's not worth the fight
‘Just head to the pub and be out of sight'

There's lots of chatting quite loud to friends
They might feel like eating, it just depends
Am I offering pizza or a nice piece of fruit
‘You need to eat greens' I say on a loop

Are the kids OK? I can't figure it out
I must say the right things, try not to shout
It's OK though, I'll do a therapeutic jog
Drink gin and tonic, or talk to the dog.
