I'm Tired Of The North American Landscape Poem by Raymond Farrell

I'm Tired Of The North American Landscape

I'm tired of the North American urban landscape
Strip males with miles of concrete
Banal unexpressive architecture
No craftmanship and no shame
There is nothing but expediency on display here
If it were Art we'd be talking about
Cities like Prague, Paris or Kracow
Or for that matter the European countryside
With its quaint villages and their churches
Centuries-old but reminding us all
Of a bygone time
When craftsmen took pride in their work
These are the equivalent's of Rembrandt
Masterpieces of architecture
But in North American towns and cities
A few flashes of splendor but for the most part
The whole exhibit is a cartoon strip
Straight out of the Funny Pages
Golden arches and a multi-colored jumble of signs
Up and down the roads with bland facades
A chaotic spewing forth of color
Intermingled with drab banality
A Loony Tunes cartoon gone nuts
It's enough to make you puke.
