IF TODAY IS MY LAST…

If today is my last,
I will go on my knees in the morning
Having the high – praise of God in my mouth
For such a brief but successful life I’d led
As the minutes turn to hours

If today is my last,
Off my knees, I will sit down
To delightfully study that portion of the Holy – Book
That describes the unspeakable splendour of the awaiting world
What a glorious place – a place of rest.

If today is my last,
I will take time to ponder
Reflecting on all I’ve done
Appraising my service in this world of responsibilities
Ending it all with a sincere prayer.

If today is my last,
I will proceed to the bathroom with ecstasy
Taking my last bath with joy
And wondering what becomes of this flesh
After I might have entered the world beyond.

If today is my last,
I will pick up my dream journal
And pour out from the abundance of my heart
An inspiring panegyric to my creator.
And that will definitely be my last write – up.

If today is my last,
I will carefully and wonderfully sought out
The very simplest of my few clothes
Using not a single adornment
Reminding myself that they are all but vanity.

If today is my last,
Walking around the streets of my village,
I will affect lives positively as much as I could
Beaming joyfully at all and sundry
As hours roll over hours

If today is my last,
The few words I speak will be full of Spirit and Life
Encouraging every soul
Making them to realise as well
That there days are numbered, to.

If today is my last,
My money and properties will I freely give
Knowing fully well that I’ll need them no more
As I exit this market place
To a world where the currency is faith.

If today is my last,
After all said and done,
I will lie down on my bed willingly
Closing my eyes as though to sleep
Only to wake up … in a new world


Creator, O’ Creator
Help me to bear this in mind
Affecting every live I meet positively
And keeping faithful in my service
… As though each day will be my last.
