If Only I Had Studied Harder Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

If Only I Had Studied Harder

Rating: 3.5

That's what I thought in those final moments-

If only I had studied harder and learned
by heart the declensions of Latin

If only my parents had acquired wealth
enough to send me to university

If only my grandparents had left
the old country in time

If only my impetuous nature
had been restrained

Perhaps this dismal death
might have been avoided

But then I never would have
become Achilles!
