If I Fall Poem by Sam Cumpston

If I Fall

If I fell
In this never ending battle
Between the forces of this world
The fighting would go on
All around me
Steel meeting steel
The twang of longbows releasing arrows
Shields splintering from mighty blows
In the midst of this
I would be forgotten
Laying amidst the mounds of bodies
Warm blood pooling about my face
As another of the warriors fall
If in this great battle I fell
I would be able
To find peace within myself
To be happy and calm
If herein death lies
Then I lie with it

But I have not fallen
And I refuse to give in
I refuse to dropp my blade
And not release the warrior within
Hours have gone by
And yet I fight strong
To bring down the evil
That preys upon all that’s good in this world
Along this journey
There were many chances to turn back
And to change how I came here
But it would end the same
Blade against blade
Fighting for the same earth
In the darkest battle
If I fell…
