If Poem by Sandra Osborne

If

If I were a flower, I'd be a red rose.
I'd be a bright one, full of fire,
I'd be the sent of life’s desire.

If I were a chemical element, I'd be carbon.
I’d be the basis of all life,
I’d be the diamond for my wife.

If I were a moment, I'd be forever.
I’d be the happiest joyful one,
I’d be the next one, just begun.

If I were a photograph, I'd be the flag of Iwo Jima.
I’d be the hope and fear and fight,
I’d be the youth of American light.

If I were an article of clothing, I'd be a hat.
I’d be wide and worn just right,
I’d be tipped to the ladies tonight.

If I were a body part, I'd be a mouth.
I’d be kissed and dressed in red,
I’d be everything that was ever said.

If I were a feeling, I'd be joy.
I’d be joyous, filled up joy,
I’d be the reason for the greatest story.

If I were a thought, I'd be peace.
I’d be prayed for every night,
I’d be the ending of every fight.

If I were a fabric, I would be cotton.
I’d be an Alabama field of white,
I’d be so soft and worn just right.

If I were a song, I'd be The Ballad of Arlis Richards.
I’d have neither fear nor misery follow me,
I’d have been forever been set free.

If I were a movie, I'd be Jesus Christ Superstar.
I’d be Mary, John and Jesus,
I’d be a pilgrim on the bus.

If I were a color, I would be red.
I’d be the blood of my Lord,
I’d be the stain on every sword.

If I were a superhero, I'd have the power to believe without doubt.
I’d be the faith of the mustard seed,
I’d have everything I would ever need.

If I were you, I’d have really missed out.
I’d have missed all my trails and my tribulations,
I’d have missed all the moments of my life’s celebration,
I’d have missed all the sadness, and all the elation,
I’d have missed the simple meaning of my own revelation,
I’d be you, with your expectations,
I’d be you and lost at the station.
I’d be a lost unremembered sensation.
