I Would Like To Know Poem by Alejandro Torres

I Would Like To Know

Rating: 3.5

We were intendeds
With a chest full of childhood
We were teens
Making mistakes left and right
Did you really think
I was one of yours
We were lost souls
Searching the expanse of eternity
For someone to share the lime light with
We only had fifteen minutes
That stretched out into years
We are nearly adults
Addicts
And masochists
Souls the same
Though you still deny us
The pleasure of a unity
That would compromise the world
The one you created for yourself
Because of the one mistake you did make
And we both know
You never loved him
Not the way I love you
But now you’re an untouchable
And now I suffer with want
But you would have me become a saint
For a religion that holds no bar over me
Besides telling me that loving you
Is damnation
Then I’d gladly take it
Along with that chest of childhood
You never bothered to open
Were you scared
Of the dark corners in there
The one filled with truths
You couldn’t bare to know
I moved mountains
I defied Gods
For my right to love
I defied respect
And even prayed
But ultimately
You let me lose hope
In the silence of emotions
I always treaded carefully
Where no angel would soil his feet
But I burned myself
In the fire we shared
I have seen your naked paling flesh
And served you my fear
On a silver platter
And it would seem all for not
But before the rest of my days pass me
Without a single thought
Of why I feel so aged
I would like to know
Was the silence really golden
When the words I spoke to you
Were worth their weight
In gold
Were the letters you never read
Marked as return to sender
Or burned at the stake
Or did Aphrodite’s Galatea
My beautiful cold stone love
Finally crumble
