I Work Hard Poem by Paula Glynn

I Work Hard

I work hard for all I have,
I am not lazy or idle and I wake up every morning,
Because I go to work everyday and raise kids,
I have an office job that keeps me busy and pays the bills,
And I buy my groceries every week at the tills,
I don't lie in bed all day or wish my life away,
I don't live on benefits, although there is nothing wrong with doing so,
I just rely on myself to pay the bills and keep a roof over my head,
But I do still have good times, for my friends are always there,
Ready to lend a helping hand when it comes to my children,
For I don't live off a husband's charity: I live off my own charity,
And I never steal from other people: there is no gain in that,
No, I shower and catch the bus every morning,
And I use the computer, file documents and answer the phone at work,
And, yes: sometimes all this activity does bring me down,
But I have my friends and good times to paint the town,
I do enjoy the nightlife, just relaxing with a vodka & coke,
As I laugh and talk about my day with my friends,
For this broken heart they do mend,
And I couldn't live without my real, honest-to-god, friends,
My life going from day and day, paying the bills,
Sleeping soundly at night,
My morning shower washing the pain away.
