I Wonder Why You Cried Poem by Lorraine Licona

I Wonder Why You Cried

Rating: 5.0

As I watch you cry
Tears rolling down your cheek
I wondered
if for just one moment
you were feeling the same pain
that had haunted me for so long
I wondered
if at last you could understand
the lonely emptiness
that had pierced my heart
since the day you left -
a pain that would not release it’s grip
As I held your head to my breast
and combed my fingers through your hair
like a small child
wounded and hurt
I wanted so much to reach your soul
with mine
and make us one again
I had no judgment
or despise
for what you might have done
Neither did I ask
for true love does not judge or despise
But still I felt hurt
that your memories had faded
and the love in your heart for me
had cooled enough
to allow someone else to take my place
When I asked if you loved her
and you said, “No”
my heart leapt for joy for a moment
I hadn’t lost you completely after all
But now
as time passes
and my thoughts are clearer
I wonder
how the decision for us to be together
could be so difficult
if what you said was true
I wonder
if you are in her arms tonight
instead of mine
And
I wonder
why you cried
