I Wonder Poem by Joshua Hillard

I Wonder

I close my eyes just to dream,
Heaven’s death, or so it seems.
A peaceful place that cures my pain,
Only to awake with a frightful scream.

I raise my head to wonder why,
To get up now and begin to try.
My mind is blank, for this I see,
Here is where I begin to cry.

Without my family, I’d be no man,
An impeccable love you’ll never understand.
But I am burdened day by day,
Knowing that day there will be an end.

Every sleep is another day’s pass,
Every memory begins a new task.
So if I close my eyes and drift away,
Will I become the Earth’s new past?

I wonder…
