I Wish That I Could Be Poem by Steven Rodgers

I Wish That I Could Be

He thinks that I'm a hero,
That I am the strongest man,
He thinks I am the smartest,
He is my biggest fan,
When I come home from work,
He is waiting at the door,
I don't allow him on the couch,
But he's happy on the floor,

The truth is not so merry,
I'm really rather weak,
And in the brains department,
The outlook appears bleak,
And I am not a hero,
I've never saved a soul,
Life is full of obstacles,
Already taken toll,

But when I come home he's happy,
He licks my face with glee,
He doesn't know the truth, still,
He thinks the world of me,
I wish that I could be,
A stronger, better man,
I wish that I could be,
Who my dog thinks I am.
