I Will Make The Most Of Every Day Poem by Francis Duggan

I Will Make The Most Of Every Day

I'm just your average run of the mill rhymer
One who is many years beyond his prime
And though I've written over six thousand pieces
I'm not prepared to bow to father time.

It doesn't bother me to know that my rhymes won't outlive me
Or that my reputation as a rhymer will not grow
I'll be just another one of the forgotten
And life goes on though people come and go.

Yet life is great for life is part of Nature
And like everyone time too won't wait for me
We are like Autumn leaves on flooded river
That races down the hill on towards the sea.

Some great scientists claim that the sun will burn out this Planet
Though still more than a million years of life on Earth they say
If this be true then I won't have to worry
For more than a million years in time seems far away.

In less than a hundred years from now I'll be forgotten
And none will know I ever lived nor care
So I may as well make the most of what time I've left
For of that my name will die with me I am aware.

I could never be a poet I'm just a rhymer
And old habits die hard it would seem that way
And time ticks on and I am getting older
But I will make the most of every day.
