I Will Be Near Poem by J Patrick Murphy

I Will Be Near

When first light dawns far in the east,
And hatchlings chirp for morning's feast,
When night's last stars say their goodbyes,
And you awake with dreary eyes,
When daylight draws, I will be near.

When sweet delights consume your thoughts,
And you forget past days of naught,
When your eyes glow with bliss supreme,
And life feels like a joyous dream,
When gladness calls, I will be near.

When all good things do thence depart,
And ev'ry hope has left your heart,
When life has lost it's normal glow,
And down your face tears endless flow,
When sadness gnaws, I will be near.

When light goes down in western sky,
And nightly owls commence to fly,
When moonlight takes it's evening shift,
And into sleep you slowly drift,
When darkness falls, I will be near.

When time's long toll has made you gray,
And searing pain comes ev'ry day,
When all that's left: impending death,
And you exhale life's final breath,
When the grave stalls, I will be near.

When ceaseless light fills up your gaze,
And you find your eternal place,
When you have life that never ends,
With Him who died for all your sins,
When heaven awes, I will be near.
