I Used To Be Guanlong Poem by Paula Glynn

I Used To Be Guanlong

The first cut is the deepest
I started out as Guanlong
In the depths of historical time
Millions and millions of years
The earth older than ever realized

I walked the earth 75kg
Light for a dinosaur
Yet I did hunt in packs
Yet I did have powerful jaws
And legs that could run incredibly fast

Geological changes forced
Me to flee the vicious south
For the nature rich north
Grass and trees and fields
Waiting for me: a tiny T-Rex to roam

Volcanoes to explode
During the Jurassic period
Forcing every dinosaur to flee
The terrain too hot and too brutal
To even consider staying living on

Continuing the predator hunt
As millions of years go past
My once light Guanlong body
Now weighing 6000kg:
Six tons of sheer brutal force

My jaws could brutally crush
Another dinosaur's neck in seconds
My fierce roar having every dinosaur
Running in terrible and life preserving fear
No dinosaur wanting me anywhere near

I am the message of evolution:
Going from small and weak
To gradually becoming loud
Powerful and reigning supreme
Loving every dinosaur scream

My bird brain designed to hunt
To plan the attack and kill in a pack
To camouflage in the dense trees
Wanting an easy target to kill
Getting an instinctual thrill of the hunt

However I can't run for too long:
My bones could break
And my heart could burst
And going without food for too long
Makes me weak and slow

Ultimately I am a fierce predator
I am the king of the dinosaur world
I am the symbol of ultimate fear
Yet maybe I can eat the slaves
And free the innocent from their fear.
