I Think It Rains In Abeokuta. Poem by Olalekan Ololade Sobande

I Think It Rains In Abeokuta.

Rating: 5.0

Look!
Look out there in the bucket,
The rusty bucket with unclean water.
I don't know why rain refuse to fall in Abeokuta.
5. O! NO! God send down the rain please.

I think it rains!
I saw it raise, the sudden cloud from ashes settling.
O it mus rain, Purity of happiness.
Look at the dancing cloud across the sky,
10. Preparing to fall as rain water.

Suddenly the air cracks, the clouds dissapered,
Then suddenly there's silence.
I don't know why rain refuses to fall in Abeokuta.
O! NO! God send down the rain please.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Like the works of all true and great poets who are committed to their art and are sensitive to human suffering. Lekan's war poems show his deep concern for the violence and the destruction of human life. So some of his war poems are pleas for sanity, truth and love and this poem is a good example. One of its fascination is its compact structure. Another is the use of the rain and cloud as the symbol of peace and concord.
