I Thank God In Memory Poem by Felix Emeka George

I Thank God In Memory

I have been at this place,
this front line,
From the beginning of the campaign
Till today that I leave the theatre.
Not to my wife and children
But duty call towards another home of bravery.
I may be eating in a mess hall than a trench.

To my family and friends in the deserts
Still eating in the trenches
Stay rugged
Feast with your heart and fix your eyes to live.
Let my wishes of peace, hope and strength
Travel with you in this path,
this earth this threat.

As a soldier I thank God for avating it these eight years
Though what I hear
is change in sight.

I thank my family and friends
Those who left and right share in the bravery land.
Our battalion, my family and friends
On this joint mission to defend the motherland.
I know and remember many faces
persons who made the ultimate sacrifice never to be seen again

As soldiers, our heart solace remains that nothing is as great as the glory and pride to die in patriotic service.
To be alive is a great privilege.

For all the places life has taken me,
From the start of this insurgency and subsequently in safety.
I just want to thank you fervent God.
Because I know You kept me for a purpose
and to this I present myself for your service.
To God be the glory.
