I Stop Walking Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Stop Walking

I STOP WALKING

I stop walking
The wind is pleasantly cool-
I sit down on the wooden bench
Surrounded by fields of weeds and wildflowers
The sky is light - grey spring-

I don't know why
I am so so happy
Happy just to be alive-

Soon I will walk again
The pain in my knee
Less than it was-

All around me is Jerusalem morning light
And the fields dancing in the morning wind
Like my happiness.
