I Stood Barefoot On Gentle Grass Poem by Danny Draper

I Stood Barefoot On Gentle Grass

For a few seconds this morning
Long Sun bedded supine
I stood barefoot on gentle grass
My soles warm and sublime,
Before moving on
Into fragmented shadow
To the side gate
Cool and sparse and narrow,
Autumnal and fresh
Lone step and bare patch
Sprawling 'Geisha Girl' arch
And a bag awkward latch,
Cold uneven pavers
Hymenosporum has its way
Wash tubs line of Clivea's
Bare feet it's numbered day,
Warmer months reach further
Day lengths change is same
Autumn feels like spring
And summer burns it's name,
But it will come as winter does
And limbs and plants repose
We will in fear think the worst
Dallying as sciences disclose,
But this morning for a few seconds
While the Sun lay bedded supine
I stood barefoot on warm gentle grass
And my soul found a peace sublime.
