When I was young
I remember
Seeing my family tree
In fading ink
At the front
Of the old family Bible
Where there was
A geneology chart
One of my forefathers
Was Anglo-Irish
With the name Orme
A Norman name
Originating from the Norse
Ormr for Dragon
No first name
Was given
Just Major Orme
His forefather
Came to Ireland
As a Cromwellian soldier
And he was part
Of the landed gentry
His palatial manor house
Stands in Ireland today
As a protected
Heritage property
And it gave me
An odd sensation
To realize
That everything
He stood for
I vehemently oppose
Fascinating poem and commentary. Unfortunately, the mindset of 'leaders' of that time are still the mindsets of today's leaders. Only the means have changed.

When memories seem not to fade, then to seek its explanation sometimes gives satisfaction. The element of truth in such poems makes it interesting. Major Orme seems gallant as his title and would have been proud of these verses. The manner it is penned is fascinating as it seems to be the beginning of some Disney story. Liked
