I Once Was Blind (1) Poem by Michael P. Johnson

I Once Was Blind (1)

Who fail to answer Jesus’ call
Who fail to see The Light
Who fail to stand when others fall
Will fail to win life’s fight

The fight with lust with selfish gain
With doubt with fear and pride
They’ll fail to break the devil’s chain
Without God’s Fire inside

The Holy Ghost will open eyes
God’s Lamp will show the Way
Reveal deceit, demonic lies
Will strengthen who obey

He’ll guide in truth, disclosing wrong
He’ll teach us how to live
Nourishing faith to sing life’s song
And give all God would give

Yet like a fool I failed to see
Through selfish lust deceived
I sought no way that I’d be free
From whom all hell’s believed

The devil reigned to cloud my mind
He’d hide what God has done
Deceived and bound these eyes were blind
To Christ God’s Lamb & Son

To God quite blind completely dumb
Yet in the world no dope
Whatever day or night would come
I’d somehow always cope

I lived my life embraced each thrill
With tooth and nail I’d fight
I’d lie and cheat to get my fill
But then I saw The Light
