I'Ll Now Start Being Your Neruda

Rating: 3.5

I’ll now start being your Neruda
while you are still sitting on the same bench with me
I’ll watch for your lips stretch to smile
until a dimple forms on each cheek
I’ll wait for the next word you’ll speak
I’ll listen carefully, filling my ears to the brim
so that to my heart, each word from you will go
and then it will open its own ears
‘till it can hear what yours really says
I’ll show you how marvelous you made me and
you better look at my hands and see
that they tremble no more
unlike when you were not yet sitting on the same
bench with me
since they found new comfort
and fear is now overshadowed
and love is not infatuation
I’ll never again care about destiny
because a rose bud blooms as a rose
but not always
I’ll write more creations and more clichés
on friends
on success
on love
on happiness
on everything as sweet as you
I’ll imagine you with me
inside a home in a red-painted town
I’ll untie your shoelaces
and I’ll let you rest your head on my shoulder
and you will fall asleep
and I’ll get used to your snoring
and I’ll enjoy the pump of your lungs
and the pump of your heart
and I’ll fall asleep, too
still, I’ll dream of dreams of you…
meanwhile, I will be your Neruda.
