I Am Not Old Poem by Danny Ballan

I Am Not Old

I am not old;
It’s just the wrinkles on my face-
That tell the storyline of humanity.
And the gales left my skin dry;
And the sun hardened the surface
But the softness was kept intact within
After all the history of life and love
I’ve lived and loved and suffered.

I am not tired;
It’s just my eyes that need some rest-
After all what they have seen,
And the test after test
That kept them awake for so long
Studying in the middle of the night
The patterns of how humans act;
I rest now failing to understand.

I am not dead;
Here I am; talking to you;
My blood many times have clogged;
My heart as well nearly stopped,
But for a reason I made it.
My friends all left, but I survived-
To tell a story, perhaps, of so long a life
That saved me none, but I saved it all;
I have been alive, but I have never lived
I watched people fight, kill and die
But I never joined or shared no one
I am not old;
I am not tired;
I am not dead;
I’ve been watching life, but living not.
