I Always Thought Poem by Andy Barrette

I always thought that, one day,
love would show itself to me.
Even so I searched and searched
as far as I could see.
Many times, I would resolve
that I was getting near,
so how this love evaded me,
I cannot be too clear.
Despite my great lack of success,
I never did lose hope.
The thought of finding one
to have and hold kept me afloat.
Now, because my hardest efforts
leave me standing still,
I can't tell when I'll find this love.
Perhaps I never will.
