Hungover (I Seem To Remember) Poem by Indigo Hawkins

Hungover (I Seem To Remember)

We were very weary, and not very wary—
We'd been harassed all night by a cop named Larry.
The streets were dark and dank; we felt unstable—
We began stumbling home to watch roller derby on cable.
'Fairies, ' I ranted. 'How I abhor that label.'
You chortled, 'Yes, it's awful, acting out a fable.'

We were very weary, and not very wary—
We'd been harassed all night by a cop named Larry.
And you drank espresso, and I drank bubble tea,
After chatting with the barista, albeit grudgingly—
I queried, 'Will you always cherish me? '
With rolled eyes and a smile, you whispered, 'Devoutly.'

We were very weary, and not very wary,
We'd been harassed all night by a cop named Larry.
Then some guy asked us for the bus fare to New Orleans;
I said, 'What the hell, might as well give beyond our means.'
He gushed, 'Thank you! What a generous pair of queens! '
But you told him, 'Don't thank us. Thank the grenadines.'
