Humility Poem by Darrell A. Roberts

Humility

Rating: 5.0

Having the sense to know all are equal.
Understanding that we live together,
Making the mind know we are coequal.
In this story we all face the weather.
Live life and love all there is no sequel.
It is time that will win, and will conquer,
Time takes us all, there is none unequal,
Yes it is the ego that we must tether.

Yoking the mighty mind to respect all,
Tying the ego up like a donkey,
Intelligence will win and we won’t fall.
Live life like a human not some monkey,
In this world we must keep hubris in thrall.
Mentally calm the mind like a still sea,
Use a humble heart and hear the love call
Humility sees each soul equally!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
“Humility means that one should not be anxious to have the satisfaction of being honored by others”
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Bhagavad-Gita As It Is, p.649

I wrote this poem as poem because some people get the wrong idea about what it means to be humble. The essence is that a person who is humble sees, things as they are, and that is all human beings are created equally. Humility does not mean that a person should tolerate verbal or physical abuse and not speak out of seek assistance.
