How Would I Know? Poem by Emmanuel Femi Olorunnisola

How Would I Know?

HOW WOULD I KNOW?

For all these that I am passing through,
How would I know that you are my God?
For all the days I have been left alone,
How would I know that you would never leave me alone?

If there had been no battle to fight,
How would I know there is victory to claim?
If there had been no sickness,
How would I know you could make me whole again?

If there had been no drought in the land,
How would I know you could send the rain?
If there had been no poverty,
How would I know your prosperity?

If there had been no trouble,
How would I know you could rescue me?
If there had been no prison,
How would I know you could set me free?

If there had been no storm on the sea,
How would I know you could walk on the waters?
If there had been no road block,
How would I know you could make a way?

If there had been no rain,
How would I know you could send the rainbow?
If there had been no test,
How would I know I could testify?

If there had been no trials,
How would I know I could triumph?
If there had been no breakdowns,
How would I know that I could break through?

If there had been no failures,
How would I know your promotions?
If there had been no heartaches,
How would I know how much you love me?

If there had been no darkness,
How would I know you are the Light?
If I had not been broken hearted,
How would I know you could mend the broken hearts?

If there had been no disappointments,
How would I know you would never let me down?
If there had never been a weakness,
How would I know you would give me strength?

If it was not for time I was down,
How would I know you would lift me up?
If it was not for the time I lost my way,
How would I know you are the Way?

If I had not been wounded,
How would I know your stripes could heal?
If there had been no transgressions,
How would I know your power to forgive?

If there had been no time to cry,
How would I know the joy that is found in you?
If there had been no danger,
How would I know you could hold my hands?

If I had not been no lonely,
How would I know you could stand by me?
If there had been no questions,
How would I know you could answer me?

If I had not been in debts,
How would I know you could supply my needs?
If my friends had not let me down,
How would I have found a friend in Jesus?

If there had been no tough times,
How would I know you could make me tough?
If there had been no end to the old thing,
How would I know you could begin a new thing?

If there had been no lies,
How would I know you are the Truth?
If there had been no death,
How would I know you are the Life?

If I had not been thirsty,
How would I know you are the Living water?
If I had not been hungry,
How would I know you are the Bread of Life?

If there had been no where to run,
How would I know I could run to you?
Though I don't know what may come my way
But sure I know God could make a way.

I thank you God for making me to pass through these
For with them you bring your best out of my worst.
So Lord, I appreciate these that I had passed through,
Otherwise, how would I know?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I was passing through some tough times in my life. I thought life was over for me, but never knew the storm are meant to make me grow stronger and stand taller. I encourage readers not to give up on life or in whatever stormy times. How would you know you have strength to move on if you had not been weak.
