How To Fall In Love Poem by DavidJack Aribima

How To Fall In Love

how to fall in love

when you want to fall in love
do not do it like you are jumping into a pool,
do not go with both feet at once
do it like a stranger standing before a river,
stretch your legs forward,
one at a time
let your toes search the depth of his ocean
let your ears travel
the length and breadth
of his echoes
make his eyes a mirror in your face
see through his lenses
and keep whispering,
counting each word
at the cliff of your tongue:

deinma
deinma
ebi

gentle
gentle
careful

only to yourself
only in your language
