How The Protected Became The Protector Poem by Kavitha Krishnamurthy

How The Protected Became The Protector

A twig, part of a colossal tree
Well nourished and pampered
Basked in sun, gained new strength
Chirping birds rested, recited melodies
The silhouette of sky trailed beyond
An inexplicable assurance, in nature’s hand
The soft cushion of the leaves, kept me warm
Drank the pure droplets, quenched my thirst
Such peaceful life, filled with bliss

Spoilt by love, I was ‘The Protected’

Unaware of the darkness in store
The crucial turns that life could take
It was then that gruesome winter
That turned my life upside down
A ferocious blizzard, shattered my life
I lay Isolated, frozen, lifeless
Furious flakes, caused no pain
Feeling numb all over
The pain ceased to pain

The elfin angel, was surely nearby
Hearing my mournful cry
Taking the form of a petite bird
She flew, breaking my shackles
Released me from this hell
Fabricated a nest, I contributed
Tiny lives rested in my warm embrace
Life attained a new meaning
So much delight in being the savior

Spoilt by love, I was ‘The protector’
