How Lonely We All Are Poem by Shalom Freedman

How Lonely We All Are

How lonely we all are
One speaking species
In this vast universe
And no real sign
That any other intelligent civilization
Wants to speak with us
How lonely we all are
Surrounded by so much space and time and distance
Will anyone help us save ourselves?
Perhaps God
Or we will go down alone screaming how unkind God has been
Even those who no longer believe in Him?

One needs immense strength to confront cosmic loneliness. You did a good job.
