How High The Cost Poem by Michael P. Johnson

How High The Cost

Rating: 4.0

“Oh Lord my God what have I done?
I thought once more it would be fun
Returning where I once was lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

Again my aim was self to please
Worldly treasure I sought to seize
In vain my God, now all is lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

Through lust my flesh gave way to sin
So short the time I held my win
The moment passed, then all was lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

I drank the devil’s cheapest wine
I’ve no excuse the choice was mine
To seize the world I tried and lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

I gave no thought to man nor beast
My mind content on filth to feast
I bow my head now all is lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

How deep in sin my flesh was drenched
Then came the dawn, all cravings quenched
I took account and found all lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

To You I turn my God on high
Even for me! You chose to die
It seems Your love on me was lost
How low my gain, how high the cost

My God I humbly bow in shame
I ask Your Son to take my blame
If You’ll agree before life’s lost
How high; the gain, how low my cost…
