How Did I Pass The River? Poem by Hertha Nekwaya

How Did I Pass The River?

Warmth hug we never shared
Wise words I never received
Boarding kiss was never blown
Best wishes I never received
So how did I pass the river?
These were the darkest days
The unclear path I found
The shivers of the cold
The high bills of the boat
The declining energy
The can was entirely empty
So how did I pass the river?
And that was the longest river
The hurting stones
The harsh waves
The tiny boat
The slips and falls
Oh’ the noisy birds
Oh’ the rainy days
Oh’ the rocks
Oh’ the loneliness
So how did I pass the river?
Oh’ Oh’ the painful feet
Oh’ oh’ the shaky legs
Oh’ oh’ the back ache
Oh’ Oh’ the heavy head
How did I pass the river?
If only you had given the gift of
A hug
A kiss
Wise words
Best wishes
