Children wear an animal mask just for fun or in a game
From PM to CM, doctor to actor, Delhi to gully, masks we wear
So I too wear a mask both in love and deceit what a shame!
To hide my own self under a plastic smile oh I swear
In my casual and usual fashion, even if you don't ask
Home mask, office mask, father's mask and lover's mask!
I move with a mask I don't show my face smart
Deep down my pane is broken into 1000 bits apart
If I were an actor, I would have won an Oscar,
Tears, fears and actions I hide behind the bar
Even if they try to flee, I'll tie them in a room
It's a fake persona that stands before you in gloom
If you ask me 'how're you? I'll answer I'm good in style
without being good or bad hiding real me in a guile.
I may say I know you or you may say you know me tee hee!
A mask hides the real face of you & me alike oh I see
the mask I throw in air, hope you too in fire let's face
Each other once before meeting in the grave in any case.
Ruefully I crawl, fall, wail, shout, rot and scream
With mask gleefully, I clap, laugh, sleep and dream
Remove the mask of your face: an empty stupidity,
Useless plasticity, veined elasticity and absurdity
One can peep into an inner me: a flea, real you: a bee
End the vein stream of thoughts with a cup of tea.

I would like to translate this poem
Even before the outbreak of Corona, we have been wearing masks! We put on different masks in different locations as situation demands! The mask we wear at home may not be the one we put on when we are in the office or before the public. They now stick to our face in tact and have become a necessity we can't dispense with. But once at least we should expose our real self. Really enjoyed this half funny and half serious poem on masks. A sure 10
Thanks to madam Valsa George for the in-depth analysis on the poem. A graceful review ๐๐๐๐
