Hold Fast To Christ Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Hold Fast To Christ

Sometimes in life, The Lord we’ll fail
Satan will cast his snare
Deceitful doors will lead to jail
Cheating of Heaven’s share

Of self! Salvation can’t be won
God’s love, can no one buy
No bribe can tempt The Father’s Son
Nor purchase life on high

This child was blind to Jesus’ Light
Unknown was Heaven’s Way
A fool possessed by hell’s delights
Whose heart was led astray

But when I met The living Christ
When first I saw the tree
I saw The Lamb God sacrificed
Who’s blood had set me free

Today, by grace I’m saved and whole
With joy I’ve so much love
Within my heart and from my soul
I praise my God above

But now I think of those yet blind
Who’s hearts through lust are bound
Where self-desire clouds their mind
Where truth cannot be found

We say it’s just our human side
That God should understand
That with some help we’d turn the tide
We’d keep The Lord’s command

When moral fibre’s left behind
When sin lays wide her door
There’s no surprise not few will find
Again we’re Satan’s whore
