History Poem by Amitava Sur

History

Rating: 3.5

I Walked a very long distance
Along this path,
Leaving besides many a miles many countries
In the centuries past.
Time and again very silently
I walk cyclically over these places,
I’m constantly walking along with time
They call me HISTORY, their preferred name.

Seeing the ruins of Athena, Parthenon or the Olympia
I crossed the Mediterranean and I’m walking down.
By the bank of Nile I walked down -
Under the stars in moon lit night.
Being a witness to the glorious past -
The tall Pyramids were standing stout.
They all declare their presence with pride -
Within the sand storms in that silent desert.

The Sphinx is awakened only with it’s sharp eyes in the dark
The Pharaoh Tutankhamen I found smiling -
And lying under the Pyramid’s cave.
Witnessing these glories I’m walking down again.

Crossing over the ocean again I find the Babylon,
The amazing hanging garden
By the side of Tigris and Euphrates.
The buoyant Baghdad is glittering with lights
Crossing over the Himalayas
I’m walking over the great Indian planes,
One of the oldest civilizations
with it’s glorious remains.

I’m constantly walking, along with time
They call me HISTORY, their preferred name.

A very inspiring walk through history, Amitava. Beautiful imagery. I feel like I am walking beside you as you point out each historic landmark. It is fascinating! ! A wonderful trip to all the famous places in the world. Walking along the Nile under the stars exhilarates me. Feeling the Sphinx looming over me, it's eyes looking at me in the night - awesome! Totally loved this walk along with time called history. Thank you Amitava! Brilliant poem! RoseAnn
