His Tuna? Poem by Glen Kappy

His Tuna?

from "Curious Creatures"

He heard the 'pop'
and at my ankles now—
hyper, frenzied—
he paces paws and paces
and up to counter paws again
to try and see the can
that made the sound.

It's only pinto beans
but in the universe that dizzies us
with all it births as it expands—
that mirrors what we see in seeds—
the schema of his galaxy
is summed up by
his wants and needs.

Wow, so all we amount to is a response to food & other basic needs? Very interesting allegory, Glen. I think the human spirit soars with potential, but sometimes we're not much more than the sum of elements that we're made of.

not all. i see us on a continuum, from those whose sole focus and concern is for themselves (i see donald trump as one of these) to those for whom ego has a lesser part... indeed, laurie, the human spirit soars with potential (i like the phrase!): may we at least approach what God has made us for, and may we, at last, hear well done. -glen
