His Best Years Behind Him Poem by Francis Duggan

His Best Years Behind Him

Rating: 5.0

His best years behind him old age of him ahead
Old Jimmy says eventually we all end up dead
In his early eighties time not on his side
From the reaper of lives for anyone nowhere to hide
Jimmy a divorced grandfather is a life member of the town's football club
On Saturday evening at the local pub
He is in the mood for music, laughter and song
And he always does join in the pub sing along
I have yet to see him without a smile on his face
In his mind for sadness there is not any space
With the battle of life he carries on the fight
Old Jimmy says live every day as if it is your last and one day you will be right
It has been awhile since his hair was brown
Old Jimmy who has many friends in the town.
