Hired! Poem by Dorsey Baker

He is just an old man
who gets up in the morning
after breakfast
he gets himself dressed
and walks down to the park
where he sits on a bench
he feeds the birds
and watches the young girls
as they strut by
it gives him
something to do!
something that he
does not have to
retire from!
after all
he worked on his job
a very very long time
he would still be working!
on that job
but one day they called him
into the office
told him it was time for him
to go
they were replacing him
with a much younger man
they had just hired!
