High School Shooting Poem by Ramona Thompson

High School Shooting

Note-Told from the viewpoint of a mother in overwelming pain. Could this be the way the killer's parents really feel?

Just a thought.

Hard to believe, but more often than not it is sad but true
Innocent victims of violence are so innocent after all
Goody goody students are sometimes the true bullies and killers
Hardly letting a day go by without tormenting their prey

Seducing them into the darkest cruelest acts of a final desperation
Cool kids pushing their unpopular counterparts just a little too far past their human limits
Handsome, smart jocks and pretty cheerleaders who believe they are better than everyone else may just
deserve that final justice that they get
Over and over again taunting them so cruel
Over and over again trying to rule their school
Lest be careful and warn your child to treat those who are different nice, quiet nice indeed

Surely you don't want some dark fate to befall them as it has others
Hot heads may knock off their prom queen and king cool ones if you don't warn them in advance
Only one way to avoid that horror
Only one way to escape the pain of this drama
Teach them, teach them all some respect and how not to just judge a book by its cover
Instill in them a real sense of right from wrong
Not just for some, but for all
Give to those who are blinded so foolish by petty bling bling and silly name calling games a lesson

Give them the sight to see
The wisdom to know better and the heart to love
Before it is too late and you lose them
Maybe forever......

I know I wish I had with my little girl.....
